GSK Karate, a local martial arts club in Riverton, offers a range of classes for all ages, starting from 4 years old. With a focus on traditional Japanese Shotokan karate, they aim to build good moral character, confidence, and self-discipline in their students.
Instructors at GSK Karate help students develop etiquette, effective communication, strong moral character, self-esteem, positive self-image, and respect for others. They emphasise the importance of patience and focus on their daily classes, ensuring students learn not only the physical aspects of karate but also the mental aspects.
Through their unique training methods, GSK Karate guarantees improvements in focus, concentration, confidence, and good manners. They teach students how to generate real power with their bodies for self-defence, equipping them with efficient techniques to protect themselves. Students can set personal goals and track their progress through the traditional coloured belt ranking system.
The classes at GSK Karate gradually build confidence in students, giving them opportunities to test and challenge their knowledge and skills. Alongside building confidence, the club also focuses on developing teamwork skills. Students learn to listen, have self-control, and become effective leaders and followers, creating a supportive and cooperative environment.
Sensei Hitoshi Kasuya, the chief instructor at GSK Karate, brings a wealth of experience to the club. Having graduated from the JKA Specialist Instructor’s Training Course in Tokyo in 1973, Sensei Kasuya guides students in developing overall body strength, flexibility, focus, respect, good manners, awareness of others, and social skills. The club also offers a competition team for those interested in excelling in competitions, although participation is not mandatory.
When it comes to self-defence and anti-bullying, GSK Karate covers a wide range of techniques that are efficient and practical. They focus on communication skills, emotional handling, self-control, situational awareness, and more, tailoring classes to the age, rank, and specific needs of each student.
GSK Karate strives to develop a wide skill set in their students, including overall body strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, agility, focus, attitude, listening skills, good manners, awareness of others, and social skills. For adults, the classes go beyond the physical aspects and cover serious applications of techniques, scenarios, pressure points, role modelling, personal standards, ethics, critical thinking, and more challenging exercises.
Certified instructors at GSK Karate are dedicated to bringing out the best in every student. They are well-trained in Shotokan Karate and licensed coaches with the DLGSC. Additionally, they possess WWK certification, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for kids to learn and thrive in.
