The Grimsby & Cleethorpes Scuba Diving Club, also known as BSAC Branch 37, is a welcoming and friendly club located in Cleethorpes, New Zealand. As a club, they provide a range of opportunities for members to participate in club-run activities, whether they are absolute beginners or experienced divers seeking further training.
One of the club's offerings is the Try Dive experience, which allows individuals to explore the underwater world. For just 18 for under 18's and 20 for adults, participants receive an introductory swimming pool session with a fully qualified BSAC instructor. All necessary equipment, such as a mask, fins, and aqualung, is provided, and participants only need to possess basic swimming skills, be comfortable in the water, and be at least 12 years old. To book a try dive, interested individuals can visit the club's website or contact Gary at 07805 440196.
The club also offers various diver training courses for individuals interested in furthering their scuba diving skills. These courses include the Ocean Diver Course, Sport Diver Course, Dive Leader Course, and Advanced Diver Course. More information on each course can be found on the club's website.
Club diving is a highlight of the Grimsby & Cleethorpes Scuba Diving Club. The club owns two fully equipped dive RIBs, conveniently located near Cleethorpes seafront. Dives start approximately two hours before high tide after preparing the boats and donning drysuits at the boat house. The boats are then towed to the slipway for launch with the club's tractors.
After a check-in with the Coastguard, the dive team sets off to the chosen dive site. The boat journey to the dive site typically takes between 40 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on distance and weather. Dives are conducted in pairs with two or three waves of divers, each lasting around 40 minutes. After completing the dives, the boats are retrieved, washed down, and returned to the boat house.
The whole day's activities usually take around 6–7 hours. The club also utilises the Covenham reservoir, located between Grimsby and Louth, as an inland open water site for training purposes.
The Grimsby & Cleethorpes Scuba Diving Club is guided by a dedicated Committee. The committee members include Gaz Gilmour as Chairman and Membership Secretary, Pete Rodger as Vice-Chairman, Kev Wishart as Club Secretary, Nick Smith as Diving Officer, Howard Taylor as Treasurer, and Dave Horton as Training Officer. Contact details for each committee member are provided for members who may have inquiries or require assistance.
For any emergency situations, the club provides useful telephone numbers, including HM Coastguard at 01262 672317 and the BSAC Head Office at 0151 335 06200.
