The Burgess Hill BMX Track, a local BMX club in Burgess Hill, is excited to promote the upcoming Green Circle Public Art Trail event. This event aims to enhance the public's enjoyment and understanding of Burgess Hill's beautiful Green Circle Network, showcasing the locality and the achievements of some of its noteworthy inhabitants.
Funded by Section 106 money designated solely for public art from local developments, this project has been a collaborative effort. Burgess Hill Town Council invited submissions for five commissions, which were awarded in December 2016. Each artist exhibited their designs at the Market Place Shopping Centre in Burgess Hill, taking into account the valuable feedback given by individuals who viewed their work.
In addition to these exhibitions, the artists participated in public workshops during the Burgess Hill Summer Festival, as well as in local schools and colleges. The aim was to engage with the community and share the creative process behind their artworks.
Overseeing this entire project is the Public Art Steering Group, comprised of representatives from the Friends of Burgess Hill Green Circle Network, the Burgess Hill Local History Society, local Councillors, Burgess Hill Town Council, and Mid-Sussex District Council officer(s). Their collective efforts have ensured the successful implementation of the art installations.
The Green Circle Public Art Trail, officially opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester on 2nd October 2017, showcases several striking sculptures. These include 'Bluebird Contained' by Steve Geliot, 'Bee-Mason – A Life in Pictures' by Alan Potter, 'Emily Temple' by Helena Roden, 'Flow of Life Boundary Markers' by Janine Creaye, and 'Saxby's Halt' by John Mills.
By exploring the Green Circle Public Art Trail, visitors have the opportunity to admire the incredible creativity and talent of these artists. As they journey through the trail, they can also immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Green Circle Network, making it a truly enriching experience.
Join the Burgess Hill BMX Track and countless others to appreciate the remarkable fusion of art and nature at the Green Circle Public Art Trail.
