Remained in that position for many years. The club started with just a few members and a small clubhouse, but it has grown and developed over the years.
Today, Great Plumstead Bowls Club is proud to have one of the best bowling greens in Norfolk. This is largely thanks to the dedicated work of our green keepers, who have made significant investments to maintain its quality. As a result, our club has become a popular venue for County League Play Off Finals, visiting touring teams, and friendly matches.
Conveniently located just five miles east of Norwich, our club offers a warm and friendly welcome to bowlers of all ages and abilities. Whether you are an experienced player or a beginner looking to learn the sport, we have a place for you. Our existing members are always willing to assist and provide guidance to new members.
Our clubhouse features a licenced bar, where visiting teams and members can enjoy a refreshing drink after a game. Throughout the year, we also organise social activities for our full and social members, including short mat bowling, board games, card games, pool, and quiz 'n chips nights. We believe in fostering a sense of camaraderie and friendship among our members, and these events provide great opportunities to socialise and have fun.
Great Plumstead Bowls Club actively participates in various leagues and cup competitions. In the upcoming 2023 season, we will be competing in the Area D league, following our victories in the Sub Area B Norfolk County Federation Bowls League and the Norfolk Bowls Association (EBA) East 2 league, which earned us a promotion to the East 1 league. We will also be continuing our participation in the Great Yarmouth & District Bowls League Division 2 and the Great Yarmouth & District Bowls League Ladies League. We look forward to the challenges and excitement that these competitions will bring.
Outside formal matches, we also enjoy friendly fixtures against local clubs, county clubs, and touring teams. These matches have become highly enjoyable social events, where members can showcase their skills and make new friendships.
In addition to our focus on bowling, Great Plumstead Bowls Club is committed to supporting charitable causes. This season, our President, Paul Tree, has chosen Nelson's Journey, a local charity that provides support to bereaved children and young people, as his nominated charity. We encourage all club members and supporters to join us in supporting this worthy cause.
Great Plumstead Bowls Club has a rich history dating back to its foundation in 1952. The club sign and badge feature the image of the village blacksmiths forge, which was located at Middle Road, under the ownership of the Jermy family at the time. From its humble beginnings, the club has grown into a thriving community of passionate bowlers, dedicated to promoting the sport and fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
If you are looking to join a bowling club in Norwich, Great Plumstead Bowls Club offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of a vibrant and enthusiastic community. We welcome you to come and experience the joys of bowling with us and become a member of our close-knit family.
