Grassroots Development Coaching is a renowned Football Club based in Glasgow, founded in 1984 by UEFA 'A' licenced Coach Gerry Ronald. The club was initially established as a project for local kids in the Cardonald, Bellahouston, Mosspark, Hillington, and Penilee areas, with the aim of improving players technically and mentally, regardless of their ability level.
Gerry Ronald, along with his team of highly qualified coaches, including UEFA licenced coaches Bobby McCracken and Joe Lennon, as well as SFA coaches William Bradley, Steven O'Dea, and David McGrath, is dedicated to enhancing the footballing abilities of all players and enabling them to play at a higher level of the game.
At Grassroots Development Coaching, every coaching session revolves around mastering the ball. The club believes that once players can control and feel comfortable with the ball, they can reach their full potential. The ultimate goal is not just to produce successful professional players, but also to foster personal growth and development in each individual player.
The club prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming to players of all ability levels and backgrounds. Their coaching environment is fun and supportive, creating a positive atmosphere for every participant. Grassroots Development Coaching invites parents to come along and witness the friendly coaching that has a profound impact on their child's football journey. The first session is free to encourage new players to join.
Head Coach Gerry Ronald leads the coaching team at Grassroots, supported by Secretary Joe Lennon and Assistant Coaches Bobby McCracken, Joe Lennon, Steven O'Dea, and David McGrath. The club holds coaching sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lourdes Secondary School, Kirriemuir Avenue. The Tuesday sessions are for players aged 5–12 years from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and 12 years old and over from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Similarly, Thursday sessions are available for 5-12-year-olds from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and 12 years old and over from 7:30 pm.
Grassroots Development Coaching is continuously strengthening their 2009 squad for the upcoming season, with outfield players and goalkeepers welcome to join the coaching sessions. The team competes in the GADYFL Division 1, participating in Sunday games. The club's first coaching sessions are free for new players to experience the nurturing and development-focused environment. The sessions take place at Lourdes Secondary School, 47 Kirriemuir Avenue, Cardonald, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The values at Grassroots Development Coaching revolve around hard work and improvement. The club firmly believes that football should be enjoyable, making the hard work come easily. Each session emphasises the importance of starting and ending with the ball. Regardless of their initial ability level, every player at Grassroots is encouraged to strive for improvement and become the best version of themselves.
