Grapplers Den Academy is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school located in Balham, South London. Established over 18 years ago by coach Javed, a 3rd degree black belt under 10 times world champion Roger Gracie, the academy is an affiliate of the Mauricio Gomes Legacy team.

At Grapplers Den Academy, they cater to both total beginners and experienced grapplers, offering a wide range of classes six days a week. Their classes include options of Gi, NoGi, Wrestling, and Muay Thai, ensuring there is something for everyone. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is the focus of their training. BJJ is the fastest-growing martial art in the world, combining grappling and submissions to overcome and subdue opponents, regardless of size or skill level. The roots of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be traced back to the early 20th century in Brazil, where Japanese master Mitsuyo Maeda taught his ground fighting skills to Carlos Gracie and his brothers. Hlio Gracie, the smallest and weakest of the brothers, made adjustments to the techniques to make them accessible to anyone, regardless of their physical attributes.

At Grapplers Den Academy, you will learn how to perform takedowns, control and submit opponents using joint locks or chokes, all in a safe and controlled environment. The academy offers both defensive and Sports BJJ, ensuring that you are always learning and evolving. Progression is encouraged, and students have the opportunity to participate in competitions to sharpen and prove their abilities as they progress through the belt ranking system from White to Black Belt.

Their classes are open to all, regardless of gender, age, fitness level, or previous experience. They believe that being skilled in BJJ is also essential for athletes in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Grapplers Den Academy is proud to be affiliated with Mauricio Gomes, the father of Roger Gracie and a highly respected figure in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu holding an 8th Degree Coral Belt. In addition to Coach Javed, the academy boasts a team of experienced and dedicated instructors, including Andrev (Wrestling & NoGi coach), Yousef & Younis (Muay Thai coaches), Dr Ozi, Dr Raju, Nur, Sean, Abdurrahman, Altaf, and Omar, who specialise in various aspects of martial arts training.

For those interested in becoming a member, Grapplers Den Academy offers rolling contract monthly membership fees. Adult classes include options such as unlimited membership, two sessions per week, or one session per week, with prices ranging from 60 to 120 per month. Kids classes are also available, with limited spaces remaining in the Kids Kickboxing class. They also offer ladies-only classes, such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, with a monthly fee of 50.
