Gotta Swing, located in Salisbury, is a vibrant dance school that focuses on teaching the great dances of the '20s and '30s. Founded in 2005 by Mark and Amanda O'Brien, Gotta Swing has been bringing the joy of Swing Dancing to the residents of Salisbury and the surrounding areas for over seventeen years.
At Gotta Swing, students have the opportunity to learn a variety of Swing Dancing styles, including Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa, and more. The school offers group classes on Mondays in the Gold Coast and Wednesdays in Brisbane, as well as private sessions that can be scheduled at a time that suits the students' convenience. Whether you're a beginner looking to take your first steps in Swing Dancing or an experienced dancer wanting to further refine your skills, Gotta Swing has classes suitable for all levels.
One of the highlights of Gotta Swing's calendar is the Rock On Dance Workshops held annually at the Cooly Rocks On festival in June. The school not only teaches at the workshops but also sponsors the Kooly Kat Dance Championships held during the festival. This event showcases the talent and passion of Swing dancers from across the region, further adding to the vibrant Swing Dancing community in Salisbury.
Mark O'Brien, one of the school's founders, brings a wealth of experience from various performing arts genres. He has been involved in dance since the young age of 10 and has been a member of renowned organisations such as Channel 7's Hi-Hello Show, the Qld Ballet, WB Movie World Entertainment Team, and the Expo 88 Dance Troupe. Mark's passion for Swing Dancing was sparked in 1999 when he stumbled upon a social dance event. Since then, he has immersed himself in the world of Swing Dancing, attending workshops around the world and spreading his enthusiasm for the dance style in Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and northern NSW.
Gotta Swing prides itself on creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all dancers. Swing Dancing is not only about the steps and techniques; it's about letting loose, putting your tongue in your cheek, and having fun. Whether you're looking to learn a new dance style, meet new people, or simply have a great time, Gotta Swing in Salisbury is the place to be.
