Gosforth Chess Club

Gosforth Chess Club, led by Mick, Ian, and Mark, is the heartbeat of chess in the North East of England, bringing together over 50 dedicated players. With 9 teams in the Northumberland leagues, players of all levels can find their stride here.

Every Monday, from 7 pm to 11 pm, the upper floor of the Gosforth Empire Club at 32-34 Salters Rd becomes a hive of activity. Club members engage in fierce matches in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

The club stays connected with the local chess scene, offering regular updates and events. From guest speakers to Christmas Blitz and Urban Green park events, there's always something happening.

Internal competitions are a cornerstone of the club. Throughout the year, tournaments like the standard play championships and newcomers ladder keep the competitive spirit alive.

Saturday mornings are dedicated to young talent with the largest Junior Chess sessions in the region. From 10 am to 12 pm, experienced players guide children of all ages and abilities.

Dave, the Club Captain, leads the teams, while Jonathan supports the youth as the Junior Representative. The club keeps members informed on league standings and match reports.
