A member of the Tuesday Working Group, who will provide a warm welcome and help with any inquiries. Visitors can also take advantage of the club's function hire options, which can accommodate large groups for casual events.
The Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club has a rich history in the Goolwa area, dating back to its formation as the “Goolwa Regatta Club” in the mid-19th century. It was initially created to organise an annual regatta event, which drew crowds from both the local community and Adelaide. In 1969, the club was renamed the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club to reflect the growing interest in sailing in the area.
Today, the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club is known as the hub of Goolwa's sailing community. The club boasts modern and well-equipped clubhouse facilities, including a licenced bar, lounge, shower, dining, and barbecue areas. The dining room can accommodate up to 70 seated guests, while casual functions for over 200 guests can be arranged. The club's facilities are open on most Friday nights, with meals offered during the summer racing season and other scheduled sailing events.
The GRYC conducts a wide variety of regattas and events throughout the year, catering to different sailing classes, including trailable yachts, sports boats, vintage riverboats, and multi-hulls. The club welcomes competitors from other clubs to participate in their races, which include point-to-point, out-and-return, and around-the-buoys races. The highlight of the racing calendar is Regatta Week, held in January, which includes the prestigious Milang Goolwa Freshwater Classic, South Australia's top freshwater race.
For boat owners, the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club's marina offers excellent facilities. The marina can accommodate up to 106 boats up to 12 metres in length, and berths may be leased or sub-leased. Power and water connexions are available, and an exceptional boat ramp allows for easy launching and retrieving of vessels. The marina primarily houses trailer-sailers and other lifting-keel yachts, perfectly suited for the relatively shallow waters of the Lower Murray Lakes and Coorong areas.
An increasing number of power boats are also kept in the marina.
The GRYC extends an invitation to all visitors, including members of other yacht clubs and sailing clubs, to use their facilities and participate in their racing, cruising, and social events. On arrival, visitors can contact the Club Manager or a member of the Tuesday Working Group for assistance and a warm welcome. The Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club is a vibrant and welcoming community, dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing and fostering a love for the waters of Goolwa and the River Murray.
