The Golf Society of Great Britain is thrilled to announce that Hawick Golf Club, the oldest club in the Borders, has joined as a Participating Club. Established in 1877 in the enchanting Teviotdale Valley, Hawick is aptly known as the “James Braid Border Masterpiece”. With its picturesque surroundings of castles, abbeys, tweed mills, and distilleries, the club offers breathtaking views that stretch as far as Lothians, Dumfries and Galloway, Northumberland, and the Borders.
A highlight at Hawick Golf Club is the 16th hole, affectionately named McLaren's Miracle in honour of the esteemed rugby commentator and lifelong member, Bill McLaren. This scenic par 4 witnessed Bill McLaren achieve a remarkable hole-in-one. It's just one example of the memorable experiences awaiting players at this hidden gem of a golf club.
As members of the Golf Society of Great Britain, you have the opportunity to apply for society membership at an incredible rate of £20 per year. This membership grants you access to play at Hawick Golf Club for the society rate. What's more, the society proudly boasts an impressive roster of around 40 participating clubs, all regarded as some of the finest in the country. Whenever you visit these clubs, you'll enjoy a concessionary rate.
The Golf Society of Great Britain also holds meetings at each participating club approximately every 8 years, and Hawick Golf Club is eager to welcome the society in the future. As an additional demonstration of their commitment to nurturing the sport, the society generously donates £600 to the Junior section of each club during these meetings. Such support plays a pivotal role in fostering young talent and ensuring the sport's vibrant future.
But that's not all. In addition to these meetings, the society organises trips and outings that truly leave a lasting impression. Five two-day meetings are held around the UK, usually at a participating club accompanied by another exceptional nearby course. These gatherings attract over 60 participants, creating an atmosphere of friendly competition. Throughout the year, attendees have the chance to compete for 12 highly coveted gents' and ladies' trophies, adding to the excitement and camaraderie.
For those seeking even grander adventures, the Golf Society of Great Britain arranges two overseas tours each year to carefully selected destinations. These tours offer the exhilaration of playing golf in exotic locations while indulging in unforgettable experiences with fellow society members.
So, whether you're a seasoned golfer or a passionate newcomer, Hawick Golf Club and the Golf Society of Great Britain warmly invite you to join this community. Experience the charm and history of Hawick Golf Club, invite your friends, and embark on incredible golfing journeys with like-minded enthusiasts. We look forward to sharing memorable rounds and fostering lifelong friendships on the fairways.
