Golden Grove Little Athletics Centre Incorporated is a local athletics club in Adelaide that has been around since October 1992. They offer a fantastic opportunity for children aged 3 to 17 to get involved in athletics and strive to achieve their best in a range of events.
At Golden Grove Little Athletics Centre, they believe in the importance of family, fun, and fitness. Their goal is not only to teach children sports skills but also important life skills such as discipline, respect, and teamwork. Little Athletics has been proven to enhance coordination, flexibility, and mobility in children, making it a great way for them to stay active.
For the youngest athletes aged 3-4, there is a program called Tiny Tots that focuses on fun and developing motor skills through simple games. The main program, Little Athletes, is for children aged 5-17 and offers a variety of Track and Field events. Each week, the events rotate, giving the athletes a chance to try out sprints, middle distance, long distance, hurdles, walks, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, vortex, turbo javelin, and javelin.
Golden Grove Little Athletics Centre holds their Home Meets at Tilley Reserve on Saturday mornings, with some Friday night twilight meets as well. New athletes are always welcome to join in on the fun at any home meet. In addition to the home meets, athletes also have the opportunity to participate in various regional meets and association events held at SA Athletics Stadium in Mile End.
These events include the State PB Classics, State Track & Field Relay Championships, Combined Event Championship, State Challenge, State Individual Championships, and Inter Club meets like the Australia Day Hurdles Competition. Registered members of the club can also take part in Cross Country events during winter.
Little Athletics is a family sport, and it requires parent involvement. Parents or guardians are required to remain at the Centre while their child participates. The Centre relies on volunteers to operate, and every family is expected to contribute by helping out with set-up/pack-up, canteen, or BBQ for a maximum of two hours during the home meets.
