Gold Coast Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu is a traditional Japanese martial arts school located in Bilambil, Australia. The school focuses on teaching Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu, a martial art that has a history of about one thousand years. The art was brought to the public by Takeda Sokaku, a renowned martial artist, one hundred years ago.
One of the unique aspects of Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu is the utilisation of a concept called Aiki. Unlike other jujutsu martial arts that rely on the opponent's power, Aiki Jujutsu incorporates an additional power called Aiki. This power allows practitioners to control and unbalance their opponents by utilising their aggression. Through harmonisation and the application of Aiki, practitioners can respond effectively to a range of threatening situations, using evasion, redirection, atemi, locks, throws, and pins.
Gold Coast Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu has a rich history in Australia. The first official class was held in Geelong in 1980, facilitated by Ross Burns. In 2000, Leigh Dicker Sensei took over the leadership of the school, and it has since grown to have three branch Dojos and one official study group affiliated with Takumakai in Japan. This affiliation ensures that all Australian Dojos follow the technical direction from Japan.
The school is fortunate to have experienced instructors, including Hakaru Mori Shihan, Kawabe Takeshi Shihan, Leigh Dicker Sensei, Grant Periott Sensei, Neil Smith Sensei, and David Ure Sempai. These instructors bring their knowledge and expertise to provide high-quality training to students.
Gold Coast Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu invites anyone interested in learning about Daito-ryu to visit their website and read more about the history, curriculum, and technique of the martial art. The school also provides information about the three great teachers of Daito-ryu and how it differentiates from other Aiki arts.
The school has three Dojos located in Geelong, Ballarat, and the Gold Coast. Students can locate the nearest Dojo by visiting the website and accessing the Dojo locator. Additionally, the website provides the latest news and updates about the school, allowing students to stay informed about upcoming events and seminars.
