Formation of the Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Association Singapore, with a focus on promoting authentic and traditional martial arts in Singapore. Led by experienced instructors, the association aims to foster positive values and build character, perseverance, and integrity through karate training.
The curriculum of the association is designed to strengthen both the mind and body of practitioners. Kids in particular gain confidence, discipline, and self-defence knowledge through training, while also forming lasting friendships. The training incorporates a combination of circular and linear movements, with a focus on hard striking attacks and softer open hand circular techniques for blocking and controlling opponents.
The association conducts classes in various community centres and private schools, with the main dojo located at Kebun Baru Community Club. Qualified instructors lead classes in authentic Goju-Ryu Karate-Do, with Sanny Yap sensei at the helm, who has been practising karate since the 70s.
For those interested in joining or learning more, the association can be contacted via email or through their Facebook page. Events and seminars are regularly held, with recent highlights including a kata seminar conducted by a senior sensei from Japan at Rivervale Community Club.
With a rich history dating back to 1968, the Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Association Singapore has trained many excellent members over the years, with some representing Singapore in national, regional, and international karate-do tournaments and competitions. The association continues to uphold the principles and traditions of Goju-Ryu karate, ensuring its legacy lives on in Singapore.
