Join the Goju Ryu Karate Do classes at Bunbury Headquarters RSL Hall on Spencer Street. The classes are conducted by Chief Instructor Alan Burdett, who holds an 8th Dan (Kyoshi-Shihan) in Karate. Alan has dedicated his life to martial arts training and has extensive experience in the Goju Style of Karate.
The classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6PM to 7PM and 7PM to 8.30PM. Alan is accredited by the Australian Coaching Council with a Silver Level Coach Accreditation from the National Coaches Accreditation Scheme (N.C.A.S.) with ID 19104. He also holds St John's Senior First Aid certification and has a valid Working With Children Check (No 625150).
Alan's journey in martial arts started in 1967 at the Midland PCYC in Perth, Western Australia. He trained in various martial arts styles, including Weapons, Ju Jitsu, Judo, and eventually found his passion in the Goju Style of Karate. In 1971, he earned his 1st Dan Black Belt and established the first Goju Club in Bunbury in 1972.
Alan's dedication led him to train in Japan with Master G Yamamoto of the I.K.O. International Karate Organisation, where he earned his 3rd Dan in 1974. He established the South West Goju Ryu Karate Do Association in 1976 and later became part of the IKGA International Karate Do Goju Kai under the Yamaguchi banner. He has also undergone extensive training in Japan and Europe, earning a 5th Dan in 1989.
The Bunbury club/dojo is known for its talented junior and senior students. The classes are supported by experienced senior black belts who assist in coaching the students. The dojo also has a strong administrative team, ensuring the smooth running of the association.
