Glynneath Karate Club, located in the town of Glynneath in Neath, South Wales, is a Wado-Ryu Karate club that has been in operation since 1971. As one of the oldest clubs in Wales, it is proud to be part of the Welsh Karate Association, which it helped form in 1978. The club's mission is to promote the Way of Peace and Harmony through the practise of traditional Karate.
At Glynneath Karate Club, students have access to a range of training opportunities. The club offers classes for juniors and senior beginners on both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm. Additionally, there is a high-grade class from 7pm to 8pm on both days. A new class focusing on fitness and defence training without gradings has also been introduced from 7pm to 8pm.
The annual membership fee is 12, and there is a hall fee of 2. 50 per session.
The club also offers specialised courses, such as women's self-defence and fitness, which can be arranged on Sundays. The chief instructor of Glynneath Karate Club is Tim Evans, a 4th Dan black belt who is also a qualified NVQ Level 2 coach. Additionally, the club has a technical committee and other club instructors, including David Jones and Gwyn Everett who are 2nd Dan black belts, and Jay Smith who is a 1st Dan black belt.
Glynneath Karate Club is a respected member of the Welsh Karate Association and the Welsh Karate Governing Body, both of which are recognised by the Sports Council. The club has also established connexions with other karate organisations around the world, including the British Karate Federation, European Karate Union, World Karate Federation, and the Professional Karate Association in the USA.
