The Gloria Pyke Netball Complex, located in Dandenong, is home to the Dandenong & District Netball Association. With a focus on providing netball opportunities for all ages, abilities, and experiences, the complex offers a range of programmes and competitions.
The complex boasts twelve outdoor courts and four indoor courts, allowing for multiple games and training sessions to take place simultaneously. These courts are well-maintained and provide a high-quality playing surface for players of all skill levels.
In recent years, the Dandenong & District Netball Association has expanded its offerings to include mixed netball, allowing males to participate in the competitions. This has further increased the diversity and inclusivity of the club.
The complex also features a meeting/function room that can accommodate up to one hundred people, making it an ideal venue for club events, functions, and gatherings. Additionally, there are spacious male and female toilet/change rooms, a disabled toilet, an umpires' room, and a first aid room to ensure the comfort and safety of all members and visitors.
The history of netball in the Dandenong District dates back to the 1920s when games were played on Saturday afternoons at various locations. Over the years, the sport grew in popularity, leading to the formation of the Dandenong & District Netball Association in the 1960s.
In the 1970s, the association secured courts at various locations, including Booths Reserve, King Street basketball courts, Jarvis Pavilion at Mills Reserve, and Menzies Avenue Hall. However, it wasn't until 1980 that the association was able to establish a permanent home at Greaves Reserve. The complex was further enhanced in 1996 with the addition of four indoor courts.
Currently, the club caters to over two thousand players, primarily female, ranging from eight years of age to adults. The association also offers coaching and umpiring opportunities for those interested in becoming more involved in the sport.
