Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby (GRRD) is a prominent sports club located in Latrobe City, Australia. Founded in 2019, GRRD is proud to be the creators of the Gippsland Pride Initiative, which focuses on offering a welcoming and supportive experience to all members of the community.
With a dedicated committee and passionate members, GRRD has quickly established itself as a warm and welcoming club. Members boast about the positive experience they have had, emphasising the joy of skating and learning alongside wonderful people. Countless recommendations from current members highlight the inclusive nature of the club and the support offered to skaters of all abilities.
The club frequently updates its community with the latest news and events. From important achievements, such as one of their junior derby members being selected to represent Australia in the world games in France, to the successful introduction of the Junior Rollers trial, GRRD keeps its members and followers informed and engaged.
An exciting annual event, the Gippsland Roller Derby Pride Cup, showcases the club's passion for both roller derby and the LGBTQIA+ community. This highly anticipated competition brings together teams from various regions and provides a thrilling experience for both participants and spectators.
GRRD has not been without its challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2021 floods. However, the club has shown resilience and adaptability, continually finding ways to support its members and protect their health and wellbeing.
One of the significant milestones for GRRD was the launch of their home, the GRRD Shed in Traralgon, in February 2020. This accomplishment marked ten years of roller derby in Gippsland and Latrobe City and was the result of years of hard work and dedication by the development team.
In addition to their on-track activities, GRRD actively participates in community initiatives, such as the acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of the land. They pay respect to the Brayukaloong and Brataualung tribal clan countries, where their Traralgon home base and Meenyian Skate Fit are located, respectively.
GRRD is grateful for the support of its sponsors, who play a crucial role in the development and success of the club. Their contributions help create opportunities for skaters to improve their skills and promote the club's values within the community.
For any inquiries or questions about upcoming programmes, events, or general information, the club provides a simple online form on their website for individuals to contact them directly. GRRD welcomes the involvement of anyone interested in roller derby, no matter their background or experience level.
