Whether individuals have previous experience in rowing or are completely new to Gig rowing, they are warmly welcomed to join the weekly training sessions organised by Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club (MRSC) in Hayling Island. This sailing club takes great pleasure in inviting interested participants to enjoy some fun on the water. The club prides itself on being a friendly group of individuals who are all learning and growing together. It is worth noting that no one in the club had prior rowing experience before January 2020, and due to the various lockdowns we have experienced, we are still in the process of learning. We are thrilled to see new members joining us at every session.
For those who relish the idea of being on the water and would like to give Gig rowing a try, MRSC encourages them to come and join. Age and ability are definitely not barriers when it comes to participating in our training sessions. We offer two free trial rows for anyone who would like to try it out. After that, each row costs £5. Non-members of MRSC are required to become club members at this point to continue rowing. It's important to note that membership fees are capped at £60 per year, which means that after 12 rows, the rest of the year's rowing is free.
Whenever weather conditions and tides permit, we strive to be out on the water as frequently as possible. We have plans to schedule rowing sessions on weekends and, if possible, even on some weekdays and evenings during the summer months. Additionally, we are eagerly looking forward to organising a few social events for our members. We understand that everyone has different commitments and time constraints, so members can choose to be as involved as they desire or as much as their schedules allow.
Throughout the year, we have set our sights on participating in a few enjoyable events and regattas that cater to all skill levels. We are particularly excited about hosting our own rowing event for local clubs at MRSC. For those seeking an extra challenge, our ultimate goal is to qualify for the World Championships in the Scillies in 2022! So, be sure to reserve your spot for a row and come and join us.
