Lakes Outdoor Experience, a Mountaineering club in Kendal, is excited to promote their upcoming Ghyll Scrambling event in the Lake District, Cumbria. Ghyll scrambling, also known as gorge walking, is a thrilling activity where participants navigate through a wet obstacle course along a river bed. This includes swimming across pools, scrambling across boulders, climbing up waterfalls, and even taking daring jumps into deep pools. Rest assured, qualified instructors will be there to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment.
People of all ages can take part in ghyll scrambling, and the day's activities can be tailored to the group's ability. Lakes Outdoor Experience offers various ghyll scrambling locations, such as Stickle Ghyll in Langdale, Stoneycroft Ghyll and Hause Gill near Keswick, and Wren Gill near Kendal. Beyond these popular spots, there are also hidden gems in the Lake District that provide a more personal and intimate experience in nature's playground.
For those seeking a truly adventurous outing, Lakes Outdoor Experience highly recommends the Esk Gorge. This remote and picturesque location offers a full day of ghyll scrambling, featuring a 3 km route with 200m of ascent, stunning waterfalls, pools, and breathtaking Lake District scenery. Please note that the minimum duration for this outing is four hours.
To ensure the comfort and safety of participants, Lakes Outdoor Experience provides wetsuits, cagoules, buoyancy aids, helmets, harnesses, and walking boots up to adult size 12. However, participants are required to bring their swimwear, a long-sleeved fleece type top, two pairs of shoe socks or thick walking socks, and dry clothes with towels for the end of the session. During early Spring or late Autumn, participants will also get to enjoy a hot drink after the activity.
Ghyll scrambling can also be combined with other activities, such as climbing, abseiling, canoeing, or kayaking, to make it a memorable multi-activity day. It is suitable for groups, individuals, and even stag and hen parties looking for an exciting outdoor adventure.
At Lakes Outdoor Experience, they take pride in offering walking boots for client use during ghyll scrambling sessions. Many other providers ask participants to bring their own trainers, which may not be suitable for this environment. Please note that walking boots larger than adult size 12 are not available.
