Manukau Outrigger Canoe Club is excited to announce the George Pomana Memorial Regatta Series - Race 1 happening this year. It's a special event organized by Te Pou Herenga Waka Ama Club Inc. to honor the legacy of Mr. George Pomana, the founder of our club. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the regatta, and we're really looking forward to celebrating his dedication to youth development in Waka Ama and Kapa Haka.
The regatta will feature three races in a series for W1, OC1, and OC2 categories, with the first race covering a distance of 8km and open to J16 and J19 Men/Women. There will be registrations and safety checks to kick things off, along with traditional Karakia and Himene ceremonies. A safety briefing will be held before the start of the race, followed by the second race covering a distance of 15km for Senior Men/Women.
After the races, we'll have a prize-giving ceremony and another Karakia, followed by a delicious soup and sausage sizzle for all participants. It's going to be a great day of friendly competition and celebration of George Pomana's legacy in the world of Waka Ama. Don't miss out on this fantastic event!
