Welcome to Geelong Little Athletics! The Geelong Little Athletics Centre (GLAC) is a volunteer-driven organisation that has been around since 1964. It's one of the biggest athletic establishments in Victoria and can proudly call itself the very first Little Athletics Club in Australia.
GLAC consists of eight clubs: Chilwell, East Geelong, Leopold, Geelong Guild, Grovedale, Ocean Grove Barwon Heads, Peninsula, and South Barwon. To join Little Athletics, you'll need to become a member of one of these clubs. There's no strict rule on which one to choose – many families opt for a club where their child already knows friends or family, while others go for the one closest to their home. If you're unsure which club is nearest to you, just let us know and we'll help you out.
Registration fees for Little Athletics range from £195 to £205, depending on the club you decide. Each club has its own uniform that athletes wear at the weekly meets, along with the compulsory registration bib. You can purchase uniforms directly from the clubs.
For athletes aged 5-7, GLAC offers OnTrack sessions, which are skill-based programs that run for about 1 ½ hours. Please note that athletes who turn 5 between October 1st and December 31st can register as U6 for the start of the season. Those who turn 5 after January 1st will need to wait until they've reached 5 years old before registering. These new U6 athletes will then repeat U6 in the following calendar year.
Athletes aged 8-17 take part in a variety of running, jumping, and throwing events on a weekly basis. While there is a competitive aspect to the sport, the focus is always on encouraging each athlete's individual improvement. Registered athletes join in the athletics program on Saturday mornings, starting from early October and running until the end of March. The program includes regular meets on a rotating schedule, as well as various optional special, regional, and state events. Additionally, there's an optional Cross Country Program available during the Winter months, from April to August.
If you're new to athletics, you're welcome to come and try it out to see what a weekly meet entails. You can also register prior to our official start of competition on October 8th, 2022. To participate, you'll need to register online with Little Athletics VIC (LAVIC). Make sure to choose Geelong as the Centre and select the club closest to you. You can change your club choice until you've made your full membership payment.
Just a quick note: registration fees are non-refundable, so please keep that in mind.
Little Athletics is all about bringing families together in a fun and enjoyable way. We rely entirely on volunteers to run our program each week, whether it's raking a pit, handing out place cards, or helping with setup and pack up. Parents and family members are required to get involved by assisting at events, becoming officials or starters, recording results or taking on roles within their club or at the centre throughout the season. Each family is expected to volunteer at least three times for club duties. By being open and available to these opportunities, you're helping all our children to have a great experience in their chosen sport.
