Established in Gawler, South Australia, the Gawler Trail Horse Riders Club is a non-competitive sports club that promotes a social and responsible trail riding environment. This inclusive club welcomes members with all types of horses, from Ponies to Draughts, and saddlery varying from English to Western and everything in between.
Safety is a top priority for the Gawler Trail Horse Riders Club. All club members and their visitors are required to wear safety helmets while mounted, with helmets no older than five years from their date of manufacture.
Club trail rides are organised at least once a month, typically taking place on the third weekend of the month (calculated for Sundays) and on the fifth Sunday if one occurs. Occasionally, the club also holds training days and aims to arrange camps approximately 3–4 times per year.
Additionally, the Gawler Trail Horse Riders Club hosts monthly dinner meetings in Gawler on the first Thursday of each month. Members are kept informed through a monthly newsletter.
Trail rides organised by the club encompass a variety of terrains and landscapes, including beach, road, paddock, moonlight, sunrise, and forest rides. Most rides last around three hours, with some longer rides also available. The pace of the rides typically consists of walking and occasional trotting, but some rides may offer faster speeds (these details are outlined in the newsletter). The group size for each ride varies, with an average of approximately eight participants.
The social aspect of these rides extends beyond riding, as there is always an opportunity for members to gather for lunch and chat after the ride.
