Garstang Tae Kwon Do is a martial arts school located in Garstang, New Zealand. As a Tae Kwon Do school, its main focus is not just on self-defence and fighting techniques, but also on personal growth and the development of certain values. The instructors believe that Tae Kwon Do is a 'Way' of life, and they strive to instil the tenets of Taekwondo in their students.
The tenets of Taekwondo include courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. These values are not only applied within the martial arts class, but also in one's daily life. Students are encouraged to be polite to their instructors, seniors, and fellow students, and to be willing to help others. They are taught to be honest with themselves and others, promoting a positive image and serving as role models for other students.
Perseverance is emphasised, as students are encouraged to never give up in the pursuit of their goals. They are also taught self-control, as losing one's temper during training can be dangerous. Students are expected to live and train within their limits, demonstrating good self-control. Finally, the instructors aim to develop an indomitable spirit in their students, encouraging them to show courage even in the face of overwhelming odds.
All classes at Garstang Tae Kwon Do are held at their fully equipped training hall located at Brockholes Way, Claughton Ind. Est. PR3 0PZ. The school welcomes students of all ages and genders, including children from 4 years and up.
They have dedicated classes for beginners and younger children called Tiny Titans. The classes are held on Tuesdays and Fridays each week.
One of the main goals of the school is to provide structured learning while making the classes fun and enjoyable for the students. The instructors believe that martial arts training not only improves fitness but also helps in building discipline and self-confidence. The classes include self-defence techniques, confidence building exercises, as well as sport and fitness training.
Garstang Tae Kwon Do has a strong community and is open to male and female students of all ages. They take pride in creating a friendly and welcoming environment where new friends are made. The school is known for its supportive community, where students encourage and support each other's progression, regardless of their own rank.
Please note that due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the school is operating with a reduced and limited timetable. Classes are limited to a maximum of 15 students, and booking in advance is essential. Students over the age of 18 are currently unable to train in main classes but can still participate in partner or one-to-one sessions with an instructor. Masks are required for pad work for adults, and sparring is not yet permitted.
However, these restrictions do not apply to students under the age of 18, but students are encouraged to maintain bubbles and follow safety protocols.
