Gareloch Riding for the Disabled Association is a horse riding school located in Dumbarton, New Zealand. As a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), the school is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through horse riding and carriage driving.
With a team of kind and patient horses, Gareloch RDA positively impacts the lives of over 25,000 disabled children and adults. Through fun activities like riding and carriage driving, the school offers therapy, fitness, skills development, and opportunities for achievement. All of this is made possible by the support of 18,000 dedicated volunteers and qualified coaches across nearly 500 RDA centres in the UK.
Gareloch RDA primarily serves the catchment area of Helensburgh, including neighbouring areas of Cardross, Dumbarton, Clydebank, and the Vale of Leven. However, the school also extends its services to other areas if another RDA group is unable to provide a specific service. All sessions take place in Helensburgh, with carriage driving held at Colgrain Equestrian Centre and all other activities located at Ardencaple Livery Yard. The school is extremely grateful for the support it receives from these two yards.
For those seeking more information, the National RDA Website offers a wealth of additional resources, including the E-safety Code of Conduct for participants and volunteers. Additionally, the school encourages volunteers to take advantage of the E-learning Courses available on the RDA Learning website, which many have found to be very useful.
At Gareloch RDA, the aim is to enrich lives through horses. Through their programmes and dedicated team, they strive to provide a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for individuals with disabilities to develop skills, gain confidence, and find fulfilment.
