At Friendly Walkers, we believe that walking is not just a form of exercise, but also a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in your community. Joining one of our walking groups allows you to meet like-minded individuals who share a common passion for improving their heart health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, and enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Perth.
Walking has been hailed as a “wonder drug” for its numerous health benefits. Studies have shown that walking for as little as 30 minutes a day can significantly lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. It also helps manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, improves bone density, balance, and coordination, and reduces the risk of falls and injuries.
Our aim is to provide a structured and supportive walking programme that complements the care provided by healthcare professionals. We encourage healthcare professionals to refer their patients to our programme, whether they prefer to walk independently or join one of our walking groups. Our motivational programme is designed to help individuals meet the national physical activity guidelines and improve their overall health and well-being.
We are proud to be supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia, which recognises the importance of walking in maintaining a healthy heart. Our club is a proud supporter of the Foundation's mission to reduce the impact of heart disease and improve the heart health of all Australians.
Joining Friendly Walkers is easy. Simply search for a walking group near you using our online directory, based on your location preferences. Once you find a suitable group, register and provide a few details about yourself. You will then be connected with the Walk Organiser, who will provide all the necessary information to get you started on your walking journey.
If you're passionate about walking and want to make a difference in your community, you can also become a Walk Organiser and lead your own walking group. As a Walk Organiser, you will have the opportunity to plan walking routes, schedule walking sessions, and welcome new members to your group. We provide training and support to all our Walk Organisers to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
