The Dorchester Sailing Club, located in Wallingford, is excited to invite sailing enthusiasts to our upcoming local Sailing event. Whether you are a seasoned sailor or just starting your racing journey, our club offers a warm and friendly atmosphere for all members.
We hold races every Sunday and Wednesday evening during the summer months, allowing members to actively engage in the excitement of sailing. Our club provides a range of boats available for hire, suitable for both leisure sailing and participation in the races. Even if you're not keen on racing, feel free to leisure sail at any time – there's something for everyone!
With the easing of COVID restrictions, our Sunday racing program is slowly returning to normal. Most races are conducted on a general handicap basis, while the first Sunday of each month follows a pursuit format. We have an exciting variety of boat classes, with lasers being particularly popular among our members.
Our Sunday afternoon race series is an excellent starting point for novice sailors venturing into the world of racing. However, sailors of all skill levels are more than welcome to join any race. Please keep in mind that Sunday afternoon racing has not yet been reinstated, but we'll update you when it's available again.
All our races are expertly organised by a designated officer of the day and assistant officers. Additionally, we have a safety boat with a qualified helm present on the water to ensure everyone's safety. While leisure sailing is permitted during races, we kindly request our members to be considerate and avoid interfering with the race.
At the Dorchester Sailing Club, we also offer season-specific series like the Ice Breaker Series (December to March), Spring Series (April to June), Summer Series (June to September), and Autumn Series (September to December). These ongoing events make sure there's never a dull moment on the water!
For those seeking a mid-week adventure, our Wednesday sailing events are held on an informal basis from May to mid-September. Typically, a one-hour race starts at 6:30 pm, offering an exhilarating and fulfilling experience. Leisure sailors are always welcome to join in the fun.
We encourage our members to enjoy leisure sailing whenever they please. While there are no restrictions during racing or training sessions, we kindly ask that you yield to racing boats and avoid sailing through training groups whenever possible. On Sundays, the safety boat usually remains on the water even after racing, providing assistance to members enjoying their post-race sails.
