Long and I found them quite boring. But then I discovered Nordic Walking, and it completely changed my perspective on fitness.
Welcome to Fresh Air Nordic Walking, a physical fitness programme and wellness centre located in Bedford. We specialise in Nordic Walking courses and classes in and around the villages of North West Bedfordshire, as well as Buckinghamshire and Northants borders. Our team of instructors are fully qualified with, and actively involved in, British Nordic Walking, the official UK member organisation of INWA, the International Nordic Walking Federation.
Nordic Walking is not just walking with a walking stick. It is a technique of walking with the aid of poles that utilises your upper body strength to propel you forward as you walk. It turns a simple walk into a full-body workout, surpassing even swimming in terms of its effectiveness. While any form of physical activity is beneficial, Nordic Walking offers additional advantages due to the involvement of the upper body.
Not only will you burn at least twenty percent more calories than traditional walking, but this activity also improves upper body conditioning, posture, releases neck and shoulder tension, and strengthens core muscles.
Contrary to popular belief, Nordic Walking is not a difficult activity. It falls under the category of moderate aerobic exercise, similar to ballroom dancing, riding a bike, or water aerobics. The goal is to elevate your heart rate while still being able to maintain a conversation. It is a widely inclusive activity suitable for individuals carrying excess weight or with joint conditions, as it is no more strenuous than walking.
However, it is always recommended to consult with a medical practitioner before starting any new physical activity.

We offer regular group sessions every Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30. If these times don't suit you, we also provide private individual and 'pairs' lessons, as well as introductory Learn 2 Nordic Walk workshops, which can be scheduled separately.
