Fremantle 5 A Side is a vibrant and competitive soccer club located in Beaconsfield, Western Australia. Initially starting as a small hobby in 2008, the club has blossomed into a beloved community event, attracting over 300 teams and 2000+ players in its biggest competition to date in 2023.
What sets Fremantle 5 A Side apart is its commitment to inclusivity and diversity. The club welcomes players of all ages, genders, and skill levels, offering a fun and exciting soccer experience for the whole family. With the aim of promoting female soccer in the community, Fremantle 5 A Side has dedicated resources to growing the participation of young girls in the sport.
The club runs two seasons each year, one in Spring and one in Summer, providing soccer enthusiasts with ample opportunities to showcase their skills. Spring runs from mid-October to mid-December on Mondays and Wednesdays. Summer, starting in late January, takes place exclusively on Mondays. All matches are held at the club's home ground, Bruce Lee Oval in Beaconsfield.
Leading the charge at Fremantle 5 A Side is Robert De Kleine, the founder and co-coordinator of the club. Hailing from the Netherlands, Robert brings a lifelong passion for soccer, honed through years of playing and idolising legends like Johan Cruyff. His dedication for promoting female soccer began when he noticed a lack of opportunities for young girls to play the sport. Since then, Robert has spent over 22 years working with East Fremantle Tricolore SC (now merged with Fremantle United SC to form Fremantle City FC) and currently serves as the chair of the Women and Girls Subcommittee at Fremantle City FC.
