Frampton Cotterell Badminton Club is committed to competing in various divisions of the Bristol League. In the upcoming season, they plan to enter one Mixed team in Division 4, one Men's team in Division 7, and a Ladies team in Division 2. Last year, the mixed team was unfortunately relegated from Division 3 to Division 4, while the ladies team was promoted from Division 3 to Division 2.
Membership fees for adults amount to 155, which covers the club fees in addition to the Badminton England and Avon Badminton fees. Currently, the club has around 31 members. The club gladly welcomes new members, subject to a three-week assessment period by the committee. This ensures that the player's skills match the club's standard.
If a player's standard is higher, they may prefer to join a more competitive club, while those who find the club's standard too high may be better suited to another club. Potential new members are invited to visit the club for free during their first week, after which a visitor's fee of 5 (3 for juniors accompanied by a responsible adult) is payable for the following two weeks. If accepted as a full member, the fees paid during the assessment period are deducted from the full membership fee.
The club's history dates back to the early 1940s when it was formed by individuals associated with St Peters Church in Frampton Cotterell. Initially held at the Church Hall on School Road, the club played on a singles court within tramlines, with a low beam that could be hit by rackets. Club nights occurred on Mondays. Over the years, the club moved to various locations, including St.
Michaels Rooms in Winterbourne and Brockeridge School in Frampton Cotterell, before settling at their present home of King Edmund School, now known as Yate Academy, where club nights take place on Tuesdays. In the late 90s, the club also had a club night at Downend School on Thursdays.
For a detailed overview of the club's performance over the years and the current league tables, including past and upcoming seasons, refer to the Avon Badminton Association website. The club aims to provide access to dynamic data from the Avon BA for these tables, in addition to their own historic end-of-season league tables.
