Join the Home Scouts for a four day sailing course at Green Withens Watersports Centre in Sowerby Bridge. The course will cover the RYA Stage One and Stage Two syllabus, perfect for beginners looking to learn how to sail our single-handed dinghies. Safety is a top priority, with our experienced staff closely supervising from safety boats.
Participants will earn a staged activity badge, receive a logbook, and obtain an RYA Start to Sail Stage Two certificate. Additionally, they will receive eight free sessions at our Saturday OnBoard Club and work towards earning a time on the water badge. The course will run from Monday 22nd to Thursday 25th July, with a cost of £120 per Scout.
After completing the course, participants will have the confidence to sail in a single-handed boat and can continue to develop their skills at our OnBoard club. Separate 4-day sailing course groups will also be available for Explorers and adults on the same dates, so feel free to encourage family members to join in.
Interested individuals can download the application form from the Green Withens website or contact 0330 094 8050 or email bookings@greenwithens.org.uk for more information. Participants should be able to swim 50m as per Scout rules and are advised to bring a change of clothes, towel, warm clothing, waterproof jacket, over trousers, and suitable footwear.
Sun protection is important, so participants should bring a sun hat and suntan lotion. It is recommended to bring your own drinks and snacks, as there is no drinking water available on site. While there are toilets and changing rooms, there are no showers onsite.
Please inform the team leader at Green Withens of any relevant medical information or special needs. The club looks forward to welcoming participants to the water for an exciting sailing experience.
