Forest of Bere Archery (FoBB) is a vibrant and welcoming archery club located in Horndean, Hampshire. The club's main objective is to promote the sport of Target Archery for all bows, excluding Hunter and Crossbows. With active shooting schedules and facilities available year-round, FoBB offers a fantastic archery experience for beginners and seasoned archers alike.
FoBB organises outdoor club shoots every Sunday throughout the year, starting at 10am. During the summer months, archers participate in a variety of rounds that change each week, adding excitement and variety to the shooting experience. In the winter, the club switches to Frostbite rounds for shooting outdoors.
In addition to outdoor shooting, FoBB also offers indoor shooting sessions between September and March. These sessions take place on Monday evenings at The Clanfield Centre on Endall Road (PO8 0YF). Archers are required to assist with setting up, and shooting commences at 6:30pm.
Established over four decades ago in 1974, Forest of Bere Bowmen has grown into one of the largest target archery clubs in Hampshire. Conveniently located near Portsmouth, just off the A3(M), the club boasts its own sheltered outdoor shooting ground accessible seven days a week. During the winter, they meet at a local community sports centre in Clanfield once a week.
FoBB prides itself on having a dedicated coaching team, with qualified instructors available to support archers at every skill level. The club is proud to have many experienced archers, some of whom have competed at the national level. Both senior members and an active junior section contribute to the vibrant and inclusive atmosphere at FoBB.
The club's history dates back to its origins in 1974 when a group of seven novice archers came together with a common passion for the sport. Thanks to the generosity of one member, Alan Stroud, who owned a field in Worlds End near Waterlooville, the club found a home and transformed part of the field into their first range. Over time, the club grew steadily and achieved early success by winning the Hampshire County Championship in the early 1980s.
FoBB faced several changes in shooting locations over the years but settled at their present range in Horndean, thanks to the efforts of former chairman Dr. Peter Spreadbury and other dedicated members. Under their leadership, the club's membership was rejuvenated, and the shooting programmes were revitalised.
