David, the organiser of Five Rivers Morris, leads a dynamic Cotswold morris team based in Sheffield. Since 2008, Five Rivers Morris has been a lively presence at festivals and events across the UK. They value morris dancing as a unique tradition that deserves respect and recognition and always perform with energy and precision.
The team is open to all men keen to give morris dancing a go – no experience required, and absolutely no pressure to join. The members, remembering their own early days, are dedicated to helping newcomers learn at their own pace. David emphasises that morris dancing is a hobby, not a job, and understands that life commitments come first.
New dancers are best welcomed at the start of the practise season from September to April, providing plenty of time to learn the dances before summer performances. Interested individuals can see Five Rivers Morris performing at various Sheffield pubs during the summer, offering a great chance to watch and chat with the team.
Practises take place every Thursday from 8 pm to 9:30 pm at the Burton Street Foundation in Sheffield, convenient with ample free parking and near the New Barracks Tavern for post-practise drinks.
Beyond morris dancing, Five Rivers Morris also offers traditional entertainment for events year-round – from folk festivals and country markets to weddings and corporate functions. Rates are flexible, covering only necessary expenses or negotiated in-kind.
With David at the helm, Five Rivers Morris continues to bring the joy of Cotswold morris dancing to Sheffield and beyond, welcoming all who share their passion.
