Fink Theatre Academy (FTA) is a vibrant and dynamic dance school located in Crewe, New Zealand. Established in 2014 by Miss Gemma, FTA is committed to providing a fun and professional environment for dancers of all ages and abilities. The school aims to instil discipline, good technique, and most importantly, enjoyment for those pursuing dance as a profession or as a hobby.
FTA offers a wide range of classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Acro, and Commercial/Street. Ballet classes are available for both boys and girls, aiming to increase awareness of this timeless and classical art form. FTA follows the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) syllabus, which is the most recognised dance examination board worldwide.
Modern dance is a diverse and energetic form that combines elements of Modern Dance, Jazz, and other styles. It helps develop confidence, flexibility, strength, and technique, creating versatile dancers. FTA offers classes from Pre-Primary through to Advanced Level, following the IDTA syllabus.
Tap dance is known for its enjoyable and rhythmic style, with roots in American culture. FTA follows the rhythmic style reflected in the IDTA syllabus, which has had a significant influence on British theatre. The syllabus starts at pre-primary through to Grade 5 for children and progresses to Intermediate, Advanced 1, and Advanced 2 for those interested in professional training or teaching.
For preschoolers aged 2. 5-4. 5 years, FTA offers Tiny Tappers & Tiny Ballet classes. These delightful classes use fun and imagery to teach the first steps of Ballet and Tap.
Through the use of scarves, musical instruments, and a variety of music, young imaginations are stimulated, and self-expression is encouraged. These classes aim to develop muscle control, coordination, creativity, spatial awareness, and social skills in a fun and nurturing environment.
Acrobatic dance, also known as acro, incorporates tricks such as cartwheels, handstands, and walkovers into dance material. FTA follows the worldwide syllabus provided by Acrobatic Arts, which blends musicality, emotional expression, line, extension, and acrobatic movements in a dance context. Acro classes are suitable for boys and girls from 5 years of age and offer a modern warm-up combined with balletic technique, focusing on flexibility and strengthening work.
At Fink Theatre Academy, students have exciting opportunities to perform at local events, shows, and dance competitions. The school also offers optional exams for those wishing to challenge themselves further. FTA's dedicated and experienced instructors provide inspiring learning experiences, nurturing each student's talents and encouraging them to reach their full potential. Whether students dream of becoming professional dancers or simply want to enjoy the art of dance as a hobby, Fink Theatre Academy is the perfect place to make those dreams a reality.
