Located in the heart of Drogheda, Figo Dojo - Genbukan Martial Arts is a traditional martial arts school offering a wide range of disciplines for students of all ages and abilities. Led by the 58th Generation Amatsu Tatara Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura, the school specialises in NINPO Ninjutsu, JU JUTSU, Kids Martial Arts, Self Defence, Kobudo Weapons, and Mind Body Balance.
NINPO Ninjutsu, the father of Japanese martial arts, is a highly evolved system with 2000 years of knowledge, focusing on both physical techniques and mental discipline. JU JUTSU, the art of the Samurai, includes a variety of striking, throwing, locking, and control techniques. Genbukan instructors are trained in the original techniques from various Ju Jutsu lineages, making them highly skilled in the art.
For children, Genbukan Kids Martial Arts provides a safe and enjoyable environment to learn respect, discipline, and self-defence. The classes encourage natural body movement, self-belief, and awareness without aggression. Parents are welcome to watch their children train and develop new friendships in the class.
Self Defence classes at Figo Dojo are designed for individuals of all ages and abilities, focusing on practical techniques that do not require physical strength. Created by Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura, the self-defence training draws on his experience as a police officer and SWAT Team Leader.
The school also offers training in Kobudo Weapons, including sword, staff, spear, bow and arrow, and other traditional Ninja weapons. Students practise weapon techniques as well as unarmed defence against knife attacks, enhancing their overall martial arts skills.
At Figo Dojo, the concept of 'Seishinteki Kyoho' or mind-body balance is central to all training. Students learn to find harmony within themselves and their lives, striving for great happiness through their martial arts practise. Additionally, the school teaches Chi Kong and ancient healing massage techniques from the Amatsu Tatara tradition.
