Fertile Ground is a renowned dance company based in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the North East of England. As the region's top repertory touring dance company, Fertile Ground is dedicated to nurturing and developing talent in the North East and North of England. Their mission is to inspire and challenge a new generation of dance artists while presenting world-class dance performances across the region.
With a vision to establish the North East of England as a vibrant hub for dance, Fertile Ground aims to create an environment that is conducive to the flourishing of dance. They believe in the power of dance to provoke, challenge, and engage audiences, and they strive to make their mark in the dance world.
The company is led by a dedicated team, including Artistic Director Renaud Wiser and Artistic Director Emeritus Dora Frankel. Fertile Ground's board of trustees, which includes Jennifer Curry, Camille De Groote, Liz Highmore, Sue Hurrell, Lisa-Marie Tonelli, Ann Schofield, and Leigh Venus, provides guidance and support to ensure the company's success.
Fertile Ground collaborates with various individuals and organisations from the fields of dance, film, and digital sculpture to create innovative and ambitious programmes. Their latest programme, Myths & Dreams, is a unique collaboration between Fertile Ground's artistic directors and guest artists Fabritia D'Intino and Clmentine Vanlerberghe. The programme combines elements of dance, film, and digital sculpture to create an imaginative evening performed by the top emerging professional dancers in the North East.
Fertile Ground's programmes, including Myths & Dreams, have received funding from prestigious institutions such as the Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants, Dance City, Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, Maria Bjrnson Memorial Fund, Garrick Charitable Trust, LGA Foundation, Three Monkies Trust, Scops Arts Trust, Didymus CIO, and Leche Trust.
Touring across the region and beyond, Fertile Ground brings their captivating performances to venues such as Dance City in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Visual & Performing Arts Academy in Sunderland, The Maltings in Berwick-upon-Tweed, and Gosforth Civic Theatre.
