FD Academy of Irish Dance is a dance school located in Manchester, specifically in Eccles, Salford. They offer Irish dance classes for children aged 4 and above in a fun, friendly, and welcoming environment. Irish dancing is a traditional style of dance that originated from Ireland and includes both solo dancing and team dances such as ceilidh dances. While the style of Irish dancing has evolved over the years with more modern choreography, FD Academy teaches both traditional and modern steps to children, helping them reach their potential and achieve their dancing goals.
The classes take place at Bridgewater Studios, Bridgewater Mill, Legh Street, Eccles, which is only a short 10-minute drive from Manchester City Centre. The school caters to children of all levels, from beginners to championship level dancers. FD Academy prides itself on the community feel it has built through its dancing families and looks forward to welcoming new students into the school.
The academy is led by Faye Downey, a highly experienced Irish dancer. Faye began dancing at a young age and competed in various championships and competitions throughout her career. After 15 years of competitive dancing, Faye discovered her passion for teaching and obtained her TCRG examination in 2012. She initially co-founded the Robinson Downey Academy of Irish Dance and later opened her own academy in 2020, expanding her classes across Salford.
FD Academy is also registered with “An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha,” the largest worldwide Irish dancing governing body.
In addition to her Irish dance expertise, Faye has earned a BA Hons in Sport Development and has gained qualifications in the sports and fitness sector. She currently works as a full-time Project Manager in the fitness industry, focusing on projects that promote positive change through exercise and sport.
