Farnham Scottish Country Dancing Club, established over 60 years ago in Farnham, Surrey, proudly affiliates with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. Organised meticulously by John Forrester, the club welcomes individuals of all abilities, from seasoned dancers to total beginners.
From September until April, the club convenes every Tuesday evening from 8pm to 10pm. These sessions are designed to be inclusive and instructional, with dances walked through beforehand. There is no need to bring a partner, as members rotate and dance together. Suitable footwear, such as soft shoes or trainers, is recommended, with specialised dancing shoes available for purchase later.
The club’s calendar features a variety of events. Social Nights are led by club members, offering dancing and refreshments from 8pm to 10pm. Instruction Nights, guided by qualified teachers, focus on perfecting steps and movements. Party Nights, extending to 10:30pm, include a supper at 9pm, with attendees contributing finger food.
Highlight events include the Burns' Dance in January, complete with a Haggis dinner and dancing until 11pm, and the Spring Dance in March, featuring live music and a buffet. April marks the Annual General Meeting (AGM), followed by a Social Night. The Summer Dance in June wraps up the season, open to everyone from 8pm to 10:30pm.
Membership options vary: Full Membership is £70, covering all Social Nights; Part Membership is £45 plus £1 per Social Night; and Guest Membership is £4 per Social Night. Children can join as guests for £1 per night. Special events may have additional costs.
All regular meetings and activities occur at the Farnham Memorial Hall, Babbs Mead, West Street, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7EE. For those interested in broader engagement, the BHS Border Branch and the Guildford Scottish Country Dancing Club are recommended.
John Forrester invites you to join Farnham Scottish Country Dancing Club for an inclusive and enjoyable Scottish dance experience. Whether an expert or a novice, the club offers a welcoming environment and diverse events suitable for all.
