The Eyot Centre, a local Canoeing club in Henley-on-Thames, is excited to promote their upcoming Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) event. This social group welcomes anyone who is interested to join them. The sessions will be held during summer, so do remember to check the schedule and book your spot in advance.
During these sessions, participants can expect to spend approximately an hour on the water, starting from The Eyot Centre. The best part? These sessions are completely free for Eyot Full Members and Canoe Section members. No matter your skill level, everyone is invited to join and even improve their paddleboarding skills if they wish. Just a friendly reminder that as the days get shorter, participants need to make sure they have adequate lighting on their boards for safety reasons. It is also important to comply with the club rules, which state that a buoyancy aid and suitable footwear must be worn. And of course, it's always a good idea to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
If there is enough interest, the club may also organise weekend trips for those who want to explore further. If you would like more details, feel free to contact Sue.
To become a member of The Eyot Centre, you have a few options. You can join one of the three sections available: Henley Canoe Club, Henley Dragons, or Duke of Edinburgh. Alternatively, you can become a full member of the centre, which grants you access to all sessions, use of the gym, and the ability to launch your own craft from the centre. The membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March, and for those joining midway, there is a pro rata rate available. Here are the membership fees: Full Membership – £190 per year, Section Membership – £110 per year (allows participation in 2 organised sessions per week with the chosen section), Youth Membership – £90 per year (for those under 25 joining as full members), and DofE Membership – £155 (Bronze), £290 (Silver) (Gold applications should be made to the centre).
In addition to the SUP event, The Eyot Centre also has some exciting SUP News & Events to share. They are thrilled to announce a new SUP safer course by British Canoeing, specifically designed for those who are new to the water. To ensure the best experience, two of The Eyot Centre's coaches will be attending this course. They have also welcomed new additions to their coaching team. Two new SUP coaches, Clare and Harry, have successfully completed their British Canoeing SUP Sheltered Water Coach course. Joining them are Sarah and James, who have also passed the same coaching course. The Eyot Centre's website features a gallery showcasing the various activities and trips organised by the club, so be sure to check it out!
