Esperance Skatepark is a one-of-a-kind facility located in Esperance, Western Australia. It is a multipurpose, multi-generational skatepark that serves as a social hub for the youth and broader community of Esperance. The park was made possible through funding from various sources, including the states Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund, Lotterywest, Tourism WA, and the Shire of Esperance.
The design and construction of the skatepark were entrusted to Convic, a renowned company known for their innovative and iconic skate parks around the world. They worked closely with local stakeholders and held community consultations and workshops in 2015 to ensure that the park meets the needs and desires of current and future users. This collaborative approach resulted in a skatepark that offers a diverse range of elements and obstacles suitable for beginners and experienced skaters alike.
Opened on 13 October 2016, the Esperance Skatepark has quickly become a popular destination for skaters of all ages. In December 2016, an official opening event called “Edge of the Bay” was held, featuring workshops, demonstrations, competitions, live music, and food vendors. This celebration showcased the vibrant skateboarding community in Esperance.
The skatepark is located on the foreshore south of William Street, strategically chosen to enhance the waterfront recreational precinct and provide a central space for the youth. It also serves as an expansion of the pedestrian network established during the Waterfront upgrade. This prime location ensures that the skatepark is easily accessible and integrated into the heart of the community.
Adjacent to the skatepark, the newly opened Pump Track offers additional recreational opportunities. A pump track is a looped sequence of rollers and banked turns designed to maximise momentum and minimise the need for pedalling. It is suitable for mountain bikes, BMX bikes, and cross bikes, providing an excellent opportunity for riders to develop bike handling skills, including cornering, jumping, and building momentum.
It is important to note that facility users are responsible for their own safety, and children should be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Esperance Skatepark and Pump Track is a vibrant and engaging facility that promotes an active lifestyle and fosters a sense of community and recreation for all who visit.
