Welcome to the Epsom Remuera Croquet Club (ERCC), located at 259 Gillies Ave, Epsom. David Ansell, the club’s president, is available at [email protected], and Karen Cleary handles club inquiries as the secretary.
David wants everyone to know that ERCC is a welcoming club for both beginners and seasoned players. Set among beautiful surroundings, the club boasts open lawns all year. Beginners don’t need to worry about equipment; everything is provided. Just bring flat-soled shoes and casual clothes. Croquet is a game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and offers a mix of social play for exercise and relaxation or more competitive matches.
Skill and strategy are key in croquet, not strength. That’s what makes it accessible to all. New players can expect basic coaching and advice from seasoned members.
Club days are a hit, with Monday and Wednesday being key days for Association Croquet, Tuesday and Thursday for Golf Croquet, and Saturday offering both codes. During Daylight Saving, alternate Sundays have games starting at 4:30 pm. On other days, players should arrive by 9:45 am to organise matches, with play starting at 10 am and wrapping up around 12:30 pm. Afternoon play is available as needed. Fridays are kept free for lawn maintenance.
The ERCC boasts around 70 players who enjoy both forms of croquet. With five full-size lawns, there’s plenty of space, and play is possible year-round, weather permitting.
David expresses the club’s gratitude to major sponsors: PUB CHARITY, Edmund Hillary Retirement Village, Four Winds Foundation, NZ Community Trust, and Auckland Council Albert Eden Local Board.
The club also offers the chance to host social functions on their picturesque lawns in Melville Park. Golf Croquet is the game of choice during these events, and with a bit of coaching, guests of all ages can have a go. The clubhouse is well-equipped, with kitchen and toilet facilities, and can host up to 50 people for a moderate donation per person. It’s best to plan these events between November and April.
For more info on social functions, get in touch with Helen at [email protected] or call (09) 524 8216.
David takes pride in ERCC being powered by Sporty.nz. This platform helps with club administration and management, offering features like member management, website creation, online payments, newsletters, competition management, and more. Sporty.nz is widely used by New Zealand sports clubs, with basic services starting at no cost. They also offer a free app, HighlightCam, to create sporting event highlights.
David invites everyone to join the Epsom Remuera Croquet Club. Enjoy the game of croquet in lovely surroundings and connect with a friendly community of players.
