Epic Nippers, the children's program offered by Croyde Surf Life Saving Club in Braunton, is an absolute blast for kids aged 6 to 13. It's all about having a great time while learning important water safety skills and how to be a hero in the ocean.
If your little one is keen to get involved, they should be at least 6 years old and able to swim a solid 50 meters with a recognised stroke. While it's beneficial for them to have some swimming lessons under their belt to work on technique, our awesome coaches will help them develop a range of skills – from tackling those gnarly breaking waves to spotting sneaky rip tides.
We run the program from October to April at the Ilfracombe pool, and from May through the summer at the beautiful Croyde Bay. And guess what? We have a special session just for the younger nippers on Thursday evenings at Putsborough Sands.
For all the kiddos under 8 years old, we kindly ask that their parents accompany them on the beach and poolside. Safety is our top priority!
Before we hit the sandy shores, we also have our Club Safety Night in late spring. It's a fantastic evening where we make sure everyone is up to speed on all the safety protocols before we dive into our beach sessions.
Training sessions take place on Sundays at Ilfracombe Pool, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays at Croyde and Putsborough beaches, respectively. And here's a bonus – on the last night of summer, we even have pizza delivered straight to our club hut. It's a little celebration for all the fun we've had throughout the season!
If your child is interested in joining, here's the lowdown on the necessary kit. They'll need a club swim hat, a club swimsuit, swimming goggles, and swim fins. With these essentials, they'll look and feel like a true water safety superhero.
So, if you're looking to give your kids an amazing adventure while keeping them safe in the water, you definitely need to check out Epic Nippers at Croyde Surf Life Saving Club. It's a great opportunity for them to learn, have fun, and become lifelong lovers of the ocean. See you there!
