On Sunday 9th March, Tamar & Tavy Gig Club had the pleasure of participating in the Three Rivers Race hosted by Caradon Gig Club at Saltash. And let us tell you, the weather was an absolute stunner! A pleasant change from the tough training conditions, that's for sure.
This thrilling race took place on a calm river, with a whopping 59 boats in the ladies race and 51 boats in the mens race. It was no walk in the park either, as the challenging 10 km course demanded nothing less than grit and determination.
Now, picture this: the race kicked off under the magnificent Tamar Bridge, with all eyes locked on the intense competition. The boats powered their way upriver, venturing into the mouth of the Tavy before making a swift turn back past Saltash. Then came the home stretch, down the river into the mouth of the Lynher, and one final turn before crossing the finish line just short of the bridge.
The ladies of Tamar & Tavy Gig Club's A team, made up of the fierce Sarah Gall, Lynn Renton, Katie Turner, Heidi Brodribb, Charity Philips, and Helen Atrill, with the expert coxing skills of Bill Stacey-Norris, put on a show-stopping performance. They managed to overtake not one, but two boats, and successfully held off a third, finishing in an impressive 30th position.
Not to be outdone, the B team, consisting of the mighty Julie Rendle, Jane Morton, Debbie Farmer, Sandra Anstey, Claire Luxton, and Helen Samson-Hill, put their heart and soul into the race, securing a strong 40th place finish.
In the mens race, Tamar & Tavy Gig Club's A team, featuring the unstoppable Andy Morton, Pete Keegan, Mark Turner, Stuart Heale, Jake Rendle, and Rob Dawe, under the wise coxing of Carolyn Dawe, proved their mettle and clinched a commendable 21st place.
No less impressive, the B team, made up of the daring Roger High, Tim Brodribb, Dan High, Jon Overnells, Simon Luke, and John Rogers, with the skilled guidance of Becky Masters on cox duty, fought their way to a respectable 49th place finish.
Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic day of racing, and Tamar & Tavy Gig Club couldn't be happier with their strong start to the season. They extend their sincerest thanks to all those who were involved in making this event a resounding success, and they are especially grateful to Caradon Gig Club for hosting such a brilliant day.
