Electric Eels Swim Club is a community-oriented swimming club located in Zillmere, Queensland. Established in 1976 as a subcommittee of the Zillmere State School P&C, Electric Eels Swim Club became an incorporated organisation in 2003, known as 'Electric Eels Swim Club Incorporated. ' While the club still adheres to its core values of friendliness, opportunity, and inclusion, it now operates independently, no longer reliant on the school P&C committee.
The club's main event is its club night, which serves as a social, fun, and fitness event for members. Over the years, the club has seen an improvement in its regional and state-level performance, with some members regularly competing in friendly carnivals and Swimming Queensland sanctioned events. Notably, the club's elite few have achieved success at regional and state championships.
Looking towards the future, Electric Eels Swim Club has exciting plans to offer even more opportunities to its members. The club invites everyone to be part of its journey and enjoy the benefits of being a member.
The club's Learn To Swim programme is led by dedicated coach Paula McGowan. Inspired by the difference swimming made in her own children's lives under the guidance of another coach, Paula is committed to creating the same positive impact on children's swimming journey. With her Austswim qualifications, blue card, and updated CPR and First Aid certifications, Paula brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role.
Electric Eels Swim Club is supported by a proactive and dedicated committee of volunteers who work diligently to ensure the club's smooth operation. The committee members include President Ben Iser, Vice President Steve Suhr, Treasurer Tanya O'Connor, Secretary Tina Rushton, Carnival Managers Paula McGowan, Race Secretary Tamika Waterhouse and Nat Coates, Fundraising Manager Louise DuRietz, Website and Social Media Manager Danielle Fowler, and Canteen Manager Margie Tigarea.
