To say that Effingham Cricket Club has become a second home for me. The club has a rich history, dating back to 1853 when it was known as The Calburn Cricket Field. Situated on Effingham Common, the ground offers a picturesque setting for cricket matches.
Effingham Cricket Club is a thriving community, catering to both senior and junior cricketers in the Borough of Guildford in Surrey. The club proudly runs two adult men's teams, with the 1st XI competing in the prestigious Surrey Championship and the 2nd XI playing in the Shepherd Neame Surrey County League. In addition, there is a Sunday XI that participates in the Village Cricket League. The club's commitment to inclusivity is evident as they will be introducing a women's team to the Surrey Women's Cricket League in 2023.
One of the highlights of Effingham Cricket Club is its dedicated Youth Development Programme. The club welcomes aspiring cricketers as young as 5 years old, providing them with a nurturing environment to learn and excel in the sport. The junior teams actively participate in the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship, further fostering their growth and passion for cricket.
Effingham Cricket Club recently underwent an exciting outfield project. The work included the installation of security fencing, fraise-mowing to remove dead grass and weeds, rotavation to prepare the soil, and the addition of quality topsoil to enhance drainage. The project was completed within 10 days, and the results are remarkable, with the rejuvenated outfield showcasing healthy grass and improved surface levelling.
Looking ahead, the club has future plans to maintain the outfield, with provisions for regular cutting, fertilisation, over-seeding, and aeration. These operations will be carried out by professional contractors to ensure a well-maintained playing surface for the upcoming seasons.
Effingham Cricket Club has fostered an incredible sense of camaraderie and friendship among its members. One player, Mat Meers, has experienced this firsthand as an overseas player from Sydney, Australia. Mat has been playing for the club since 2013, and his bond with the club has grown stronger with each visit. His story is a testament to the welcoming and inclusive nature of Effingham Cricket Club.
Whether you are an experienced cricketer looking to compete at a high level or a beginner hoping to learn and develop your skills, Effingham Cricket Club offers a welcoming and supportive environment. Join them on their journey of cricket excellence and become part of the Effingham family.
