The Edmonton Speed Skating Association (ESSA) is here to fuel the passion of speed skaters across Edmonton, Alberta. Led by a team dedicated to the sport, ESSA offers premier speed skating instruction for skaters of all ages.
Geared for the 2023-2024 season, ESSA’s lineup caters to everyone—from rookies to seasoned pros. Membership includes affiliation with ESSA, Speed Skating Alberta (SSA), and Speed Skating Canada (SSC). The diverse programs cover introductory levels for young skaters to intermediate levels for advancing athletes, with ice times and venues clearly listed. Some registrations even come with speed skate rentals.
ESSA’s Intro program is tailor-made for new or returning skaters aged 3-10, combining short track and long track elements. The Novice Green and Blue programs are crafted for those with skating experience, providing additional training sessions and skill development.
For those seeking to up their game, the Intermediate program offers intensive training 3-4 times a week. Ideal for skaters aged 11-18 transitioning from hockey, ringette, or figure skating, this program is a springboard to higher levels of performance.
