At Edinburgh Karate, the main focus is on returning karate to its original purpose as a means for self-defence and self-improvement. The club offers classes in Shorin-Ryu Karate, the traditional empty hand martial art from Okinawa, which includes strikes, kicks, body shifting, throws, and joint locks. These classes provide a small group setting for students to learn and practise the key principles of this ancient art.

For those with previous karate experience, Edinburgh Karate also offers classes in Ryukyu Kobudo, the traditional weapons martial art of Okinawa. Students will have the opportunity to learn and master weapons such as the Bo, Sai, Nunchaku, and Tonfa, under the guidance of experienced instructors.

In addition to group classes, Edinburgh Karate also offers private lessons with lead instructor Ben. These one-on-one training sessions allow for personalised instruction and can cover karate, kobudo, or supplementary training. The main focus of these lessons is on strength and conditioning, self-defence, form and technique, and kata.
