The school operates aboard a beautiful custom cruiser named East of the Lizard, affectionately known as 'Lizzie'. Lizzie is a Duncanson 42 with a distinguished pedigree, providing a comfortable and reliable vessel for your sailing adventures.
For those interested in discovering whether sailing is for them, Ecosail offers a “First Time Out” experience. This short trip, lasting 2–3 hours, allows participants to hoist the sails, take the wheel, and experience the thrill of controlling a yacht under sail. With expert guidance, participants can also enjoy a swim, observe marine animals such as dolphins, and become part of the sailing community.
During summer, Ecosail offers “Twilight Sailing” cruises. Departing from the CYC at 5pm, these 2. 5-hour cruises provide a relaxing evening of inshore sailing. Passengers have a good chance of spotting dolphins along the way and can enjoy wine and nibbles onboard while watching the sunset.
For those seeking a longer adventure, Ecosail offers “Adventure Cruising” experiences. These 1, 2, or 3-day cruises provide a unique perspective of the coastline and allow participants to visit various seaside towns and landmarks such as Edithburgh, Port Vincent, Kingscote, and Remarkable Rocks. Participants can settle into the rhythm of the ocean, catch dinner, and experience the tranquilly of anchoring in peaceful locations.
Ecosail also offers “Charters,” providing the opportunity to treat your partner to an adventure, take a group for a fun day out, or enjoy a relaxing week with your family. With a qualified and commercially endorsed skipper, passengers can not only enjoy the freedom of sailing but also gain skills and experience to help them reach their own qualification goals. Charters can be individually tailored for up to 10 passengers for day sailing or 7 passengers for overnight and up to 7 days.
For those who already own a boat or are considering buying one, Ecosail offers “Own Boat Tuition. ” This service provides guidance and instruction in your own vessel from a professionally endorsed Yachtmaster. The instruction follows the Royal Yachting Association training syllabus, allowing participants to reach competency in managing their own boat and achieving qualifications such as Competent Crew, Day Skipper, the International Certificate of Competency, and Yachtmaster.
For those looking to gain more miles and experience, Ecosail offers “Mile Building” trips. These longer trips with small crews of 4 to 6 people allow participants to assist in passage planning, prepare charts and waypoints, provision the boat, and perform safety checks. The journey involves sailing nonstop for a few days under a rotating watch system, allowing participants to sail out of sight of land. Ecosail offers an annual passage from Adelaide to Cairns and return, with crew joining Lizzie in various locations along the coast.
Each leg is approximately 500 nautical miles and takes about a week or longer depending on weather conditions.
