About
East Oxford Shotokan Karate Club, led by Sensei Martin, welcomes everyone in Oxford who is interested in learning and practising traditional Shotokan karate. The club believes karate is for all, regardless of age, gender, or experience, and provides a supportive environment for training and growth.
At the club, there's a focus on improving circulation and overall fitness through karate exercises. Members work on their physical fitness and self-defence skills through aerobic activities.
The club is open to anyone over 8 years old, no matter their experience level. Just turn up on the training day in loose clothing or a karate Gi. Sensei Martin ensures a safe and encouraging atmosphere, without elitism, penalism, or full-contact fights. Members are expected to respect each other and give their best effort.
Affiliated with IMASA, a well-respected national martial arts association, East Oxford Shotokan Karate Club practises “empty hand” karate without weapons. The discipline emphasises respect and personal growth over confrontation.
Sensei Martin’s commitment to traditional Shotokan karate focuses on self-improvement and overcoming personal challenges. This style, developed by Gichin Funakoshi, promotes continuous growth physically and mentally.
Join Sensei Martin and the East Oxford Shotokan Karate Club to begin a journey of personal and physical growth, embracing the rich traditions of Shotokan karate.
