The EastLink 5 km Indigenous Art Trail is set to be a highlight for the local Mountain Biking community in Mitcham. Created in 2023, this trail showcases the incredible talents of local Indigenous artists who have painted 12 wooden art poles along the EastLink Trail in Mullum Mullum valley.
What makes this trail even more special is that it starts and finishes near the historic Schwerkolt Cottage on Deep Creek Rd. This means it's easy to access and enjoy for all participants. Whether you're a seasoned mountain biker or someone who enjoys a leisurely ride, this event promises something for everyone.
The trail itself follows the same route as the 5 km Mullum Mullum parkrun event, held every Saturday morning at 8am. So, if you're not up for biking, you can still join in the fun by walking, jogging, or running alongside the artworks. It's a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Mullum Mullum valley while appreciating the unique artistic expressions of the local Indigenous culture.
For those planning to walk the full 5 km trail, the average time it takes is between 60 to 90 minutes. Along the way, you'll encounter stunning representations of the flora and fauna found in the area, truly highlighting the beauty of our natural surroundings.
If you're worried about amenities, fret not! Schwerkolt Cottage offers various facilities such as a public car park, playground, BBQ and picnic facilities, and toilets. So, you can make a day out of it and enjoy a well-deserved break after completing the trail.
This collaborative effort between Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place, Croydon Hills Men's Shed, EastLink, and Whitehorse City Council is truly unique and not to be missed. So mark your calendars and spread the word to fellow mountain biking enthusiasts. Let's come together to celebrate this incredible community art collaboration and support our local Indigenous artists.
Remember, the EastLink 5 km Indigenous Art Trail is calling, and it promises an unforgettable experience for all who take part. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and appreciate the rich Indigenous culture that surrounds us. We look forward to seeing you on the trail!
