Established in 1977, East Kent Dance Academy is a renowned dance school located in Herne Bay. With a mission to connect people of all ages and communities to the world of dance, the academy offers a range of inspirational and high-quality activities for all aspiring dancers.
The academy is proud to have a team of highly qualified professionals who are dedicated to their craft. Alan Beale, the Principal, holds prestigious Fellows qualifications in Ballroom, Latin, Freestyle, and Rock'n'Roll with IDTA, NATD, and UKA. He is also a Licentiate with ISTD and possesses a Salsa Diploma. With years of experience as a teacher and adjudicator, dance has always been Alan's absolute passion.
Dr. Sandra Beale-Ellis, another esteemed member of the team, has been teaching since 1985. She retired from competing in ballroom, Latin, freestyle, and rock'n'roll competitions. In addition to her dance background, Sandra is a Doctor of Education and an author of books on autism.
Mel Smith, a talented dancer and teacher, has been dancing since the age of 6. Growing up, Mel loved performing on stage and has even competed in various dance competitions. Her specialisation lies in teaching ballroom and Latin dance, for which she holds an Associate teacher's award.
Nikki Purcell, with her bubbly personality and infectious enthusiasm, has been a part of the East Kent Dance Academy since the age of nine. Achieving most of her amateur exams in freestyle and Latin American dance, she has also earned trophies in freestyle and rock 'n' roll competitions at the famous Blackpool event. Recently, she obtained her Fellow teacher's award in freestyle and is currently preparing for her professional Latin exam.
East Kent Dance Academy offers a weekly schedule of classes catering to different age groups and experience levels. On Tuesdays, there are classes for Children/Teens Beginners/Bronze Ballroom and Latin from 18:00 to 19:00, Adult Beginners Ballroom and Latin from 19:00 to 20:00, and Adult Intermediate Ballroom and Latin from 20:00 to 21:00. These classes take place at the Swalecliffe and Chestfield Community Centre, CT5 2QU.
Starting from 7th September, the academy will launch new classes on Thursdays. There will be Beginners Ballroom and Latin classes for 6-16-year-olds from 17:00 to 18:00, and Adult Beginners Ballroom and Latin from 18:00 to 19:00. These classes will be held at the West Faversham Community Centre, Bysingwood Road, Faversham, ME13 7RH.
